A Future That’s Good
for People & the Planet
Support Our Food Safety & Renewable Energy Initiatives
Looking ahead to 2026, Monocacy Farm Project has undertaken important initiatives to create a safer, more sustainable future for our farm and our community. You can be part of that future.
Enhancing Food Safety
Our community’s access to healthy produce is essential to the mission of the Monocacy Farm Project (MFP). Due to the rise of foodborne illnesses in the United States, food safety is a key priority in our operation. To meet the growing needs of our community and to maintain the safety and comfort of our team, we must invest in ways to better prepare our produce for delivery. That is why we are building a standalone wash and pack station at the farm.
Very few vegetables come out of the ground ready for your table. With an expanded facility, we’ll be able to wash, sanitize, and pack more food efficiently. This improvement will reduce waste from field heat and increase our capacity to serve families both individually and through our emergency food system partners across the Lehigh Valley.
You can help us build the infrastructure we need to ensure that more families in our community have access to fresh, nutritious, and safe produce. Together, we can expand our reach and protect public health in the process.
Acquire a triple-compartment stainless steel sink ($900) to allow MFP staff and volunteers an easy and ergonomic way to process produce with minimal time and effort. Your Impact: Reduce community exposure to foodborne pathogens.
Relocate cold room chiller and city water hydrant ($3,000) to decrease processing time and centralize our operation. Your Impact: Provide MFP a seamless way of packing and storing valuable produce.
Construct a pavilion and concrete foundation ($35,000) to expand production in a dedicated environment. Your Impact: Help bring healthier, more quality produce to families and support the well-being of staff and volunteers.
To ensure that your donation is applied to these projects, please choose “Wash & Pack Station”
or “Renewable Energy Initiative” from the dropdown menu during the donation process.
Work is underway on a pavillion that will house our Wash & Pack Station and provide a dedicated space for handling fresh produce.
Empowering Energy Independence
As the MFP continues to grow, we must also increase our capacity to operate sustainably and reliably, no matter the season or the weather. That’s why we are seeking to expand our solar power system.
Our renewable energy initiative is not just about reducing our electric bill. It’s about protecting our greenhouse crops during cold months, when young seedlings rely on consistent power for heat and light. It’s about preserving harvests when storms or outages strike. And it’s about aligning our practices with our mission — farming in a way that’s good for both people and the planet.
To do that, we need your help.
Before January 1, 2026, we will install a new solar array with battery backup so we can store power and respond immediately to disruptions. Changes to federal tax credit rules mean we must act quickly. If we complete the project on time, we’ll qualify for a 30% savings, cutting our cost from roughly $21,000 to $15,000. If we miss the deadline, we lose that discount, and the extra cost will directly impact our operation and our ability to serve the community.
Your gift will ensure we meet this deadline and remain energy-secure for years to come.
Encouraging Peace and Good
Each year, the generous contributions of our partners, volunteers, and donors have made it possible for MFP to make fresh, high-quality produce available to residents of the Lehigh Valley, regardless of their ability to pay. You can help advance both of these projects by supporting our Let’s Get Growing 2025 campaign. Your generosity, at any level, will guarantee MFP remains vitally sustainable.
For those who want to leave a lasting legacy at MFP, we are happy to work with you on potential naming opportunities for these and other farm projects that will sow seeds for future seasons.
